Josiah Ward Headshot

Josiah Ward has a clear purpose: serving others. Having served others his entire career as an Air Force veteran and a pediatrician, Josiah’s passion to serve has fueled him to achieve his career goals. “I felt something was missing. I wanted to pursue career growth that I wasn’t getting in the Air Force,” Josiah voiced while explaining why he joined the medical system after completing his service. When Josiah started exploring other job opportunities, he realized that he needed advanced training before accepting any future roles.

So, where does Ģý come in? Josiah’s father-in-law was pursuing a graduate program with Ģý and raved about being able to use faith and the Bible in his coursework. Josiah also saw the flexibility Ģý offered to students like him raising families, so he decided to apply and enroll in the Master of Healthcare Administration program last year.

Serving His Community

Josiah joined the Air Force in 2010, where he received his medical training to become a pediatrician. He completed his residency in San Antonio, Texas and then went on to start his career at a small clinic in San Angelo. After three years of active service in the Air Force, he decided to branch out and join the medical system for a fresh start. Upon entering the medical system, Josiah knew that he wanted to be somewhere he could make an impact.

Outside of being a pediatrician, Josiah has served as chapter president of the Concho Valley Medical Society, a Texas medical society that represents physicians and patients and provides them with a platform to share their ideas and opinions. He was able to travel to Austin and discuss with legislators issues that need to be addressed in healthcare for patient and family experiences.

Through the Concho Valley Medical Society, Josiah provided helmets to prevent head injuries in children. “There was a kid I spoke to who suffered a skull fracture while riding a bike. He didn’t have a helmet, and I gave him one. The media covered the story with the family’s consent and told the community where to get free helmets,” Joshua said. The media coverage led to a huge turnout from other families wanting to ensure their children’s safety.

A Passion For Christ and Learning

When looking into graduate programs, Josiah had a few non-negotiables. Being a father, a working professional and a man of faith, he wanted a program that was flexible, offered opportunity for growth, but more importantly supported his faith.

“When I started the Master of Healthcare Administration program with Ģý, the first prompt I was given was about faith,” Josiah recalled. Everything that Josiah does is rooted in Christ, from serving families and communities to finding ways to better the healthcare system. He continued to talk about his experience being able to openly voice and ask questions regarding faith with his peers and his faculty. “Ģý isn’t forced. We are never forced to be overly religious; everything is organic. You bring your own faith and understanding to the program, and Ģý builds it from there,” Josiah beamed.

The coursework was something that Josiah kept coming back to; despite already having decades of experience as a pediatrician, Josiah realized that his initial training wasn’t enough to support him in today’s healthcare system. “The healthcare industry is always changing. I think if I hadn’t joined this MHA program, I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the healthcare industry’s current trajectory,” he explained.

His favorite thing about the coursework and curriculum is that he’s able to gain skills outside of medicine and healthcare, in operations policy, organization, finance and system management. When asked about his favorite courses, Josiah immediately mentioned legislative and advocacy courses. He loves the conversation and discussion about healthcare on a national level, and also appreciates seeing alumni from Ģý advocating for patient needs at the legislative level.

Josiah continued to explain that managing a medical facility and understanding how patients are affected by the healthcare system isn’t taught during residency. It wasn’t until Ģý that Josiah was able to explore these topics at a deeper level. “I’m starting to understand how I can contribute to the healthcare system by learning these skills and creating that positive experience for patients.”

Josiah’s Future and Advice

Josiah’s mission is to help create positive experiences for families and patients on the systemic level. Once Josiah has earned his master’s degree, he dreams of becoming a chief medical officer for a medium-sized hospital or a federally qualified healthcare system. He also expressed interest in different ways to help families across the nation, including better food distribution and, yes, more helmets.

While looking back on his healthcare career, Josiah gives credit to God. Allowing his faith in God to guide him in this new stage of his life has allowed him to grow as a man and a healthcare professional. He notes that while he has certain career goals, he also understands that God has His own plan. “Let God lead your life” was something Josiah repeated often when reflecting on his career and looking toward the future.

Another piece of advice Josiah mentioned was to prepare to become a lifelong learner. “Don’t think that you can become a resident or attending without being prepared to learn,” Josiah said. He emphasized constantly reading and staying up to date with medicine, and not just going through the motions.

Josiah’s journey in healthcare started long before he became a Wildcat. Feeling called to grow his knowledge and skills, Josiah began pursuing higher education to better serve his patients. Through hard work and faith, Josiah is expanding his foundation of knowledge and skills to serve patients and families. If you’re dreaming of making a positive impact in healthcare or have a similar vision to Josiah’s, consider pursuing a healthcare management degree. Student Spotlight Bianca HairChoosing a major came naturally for Bianca Hair. From an early age, she was drawn to computers, technology, gaming and learning how computers work and are built. Her interest in technology also runs in the family. Bianca’s uncle works in IT, helping others solve technical challenges and security issues, which further sparked her curiosity. While pursuing a degree in cybersecurity itself excited her, relocating to another town was not an option.

Bianca needed a flexible path that allowed her to stay close to home and take classes at her own pace. That’s when she discovered Ģý’s online B.S. in Cybersecurity, a program that offered the same curriculum and content in an online modality. After applying and meeting with her assigned advisor, Bianca began her coursework in December of last year. “I didn’t want to go far for school,” she shared. “The online program was the perfect fit.”

Joining the Wildcat Family

After joining the Wildcat family, Bianca quickly realized that Ģý Online offered more than coursework alone. “It’s interesting, and I’m really good at it,” Bianca said. As she progressed through the program, her confidence continued to grow. When asked about her favorite part of being an Ģý Online student, Bianca didn’t hesitate. “My professors,” she said. “They’re always there for me, friendly, helpful and supportive. And I have the best advisor ever.” From the application process to her first day of class and beyond, Bianca has felt encouraged every step of the way.

While her faith and relationship with God are deeply personal, Bianca has shared that Ģý Online consistently supports her spiritual growth. She values the opportunity to receive a faith-based online education that prepares her academically while also supporting her personal growth. “Everything about Ģý Online has been wonderful and life-changing,” she explained.

Building Confidence and Connection Through Coursework

Through discussion posts, video assignments, and group projects, Bianca maintains close connections with her professors and classmates. Her natural talent and curiosity for cybersecurity allowed her to fully engage with the material and support others along the way. Classmates often turn to Bianca when they have questions or need help understanding the coursework. “I love helping them,” Bianca said.

Bianca is currently learning to code and has expressed her excitement in learning fundamentals that she can apply to her future career. The coursework not only focuses on cybersecurity and information technology but also teaches cybersecurity techniques that can be applied locally, nationally and even globally. Other parts of the curriculum that are helping prepare Bianca for her future in cybersecurity are the 15 credit hours that can be awarded to earning cybersecurity certifications for CompTIA+, Cisco and more. Bianca will also earn two other certifications through her coursework: Cybersecurity 1: Certificate in Fundamental System Security and Cybersecurity 2: Certificate in Essential System Forensics and Defense.

Ģý ԱԱ’s cybersecurity program has challenged Bianca to stay consistent with her deadlines and understand the value of her grades, taking ownership of her education. These lessons have strengthened her discipline and helped her grow and become a better student.

Bianca Beyond The Classroom

Beyond academics, Bianca is eager to stay involved and continue building connections through student clubs and activities. Outside of class, she enjoys drawing and considers herself a very artistic person who loves painting and creating. One of her recent projects was a replica of The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh. Bianca also enjoys playing video games in her free time, including Animal Crossing, Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros.

Looking ahead, Bianca is still exploring what the future holds. While she hasn’t decided on a specific career path, she remains in close communication with her professors as she plans her next steps. Despite this, Bianca is confident that her undergraduate degree is equipping her with the professional skills and certifications necessary to tackle any role she pursues. One goal she does know for sure: she wants to build her own computer someday, designing something functional, creative and uniquely her own.

Ģý Online In Bianca’s Words

Bianca has nothing but positive things to say about her experience with Ģý Online. When asked what advice she would give to prospective students, she shared, “Ģý is the perfect college to go to. It’s faith-based, values community, and allows you to build close relationships with your teachers and peers. It’s a wonderful place to grow spiritually.”

Bianca’s journey is a reminder that the right college and program can open doors far beyond the classroom. Through Ģý Online, she has found a supportive community, meaningful coursework, and a foundation that supports both her professional goals and spiritual growth. If you were to ask Haana Gibbs what she appreciates most about Ģý ԱԱ’s combined M.S. in Nutrition with Dietetic Internship, she’d give several different answers. She might discuss the program’s flexibility that allows her to continue working part-time. She might mention the smaller class sizes that create space for meaningful learning and discussion. Or she might highlight Ģý ԱԱ’s Christian values and the steady support she’s received from her professors.

There are multiple reasons why Haana loves , but her favorite aspect of the program (outside of the Christian values) is the coursework and learning.

Learning That Connects to Real Life

Haana spoke about the coursework and how it focuses and breaks down the research process for nutrition. She raved about how her coursework has taught her to read, research and analyze various articles and case studies on nutrition. She said that it not only developed her research skills but also made it easier to explain her thought process and answers for recruiters during job interviews.

“The way they’re teaching me is very hands-on, and I can actually apply it in real life.” Haana shared that her coursework is teaching her how to create dietary menus for K-5 schools. “I’m doing a lot of research on vegetables, proteins… and how to make a healthy meal for students.”

Haana then talked about her professors and the way they take time to get to know their students and accommodate their needs. “They’re very good teachers; they don’t just give you the answer to the question, they actually help you.” She mentioned that her discussion posts are interactive and done with videos, where she can actually see and speak with her peers.

Haana’s Trip to Uganda

This past July, Haana traveled to Uganda with other Ģý dietetic students and was about to put what she learned to use. She was able to teach about nutrition, develop a nutrition supplement for malnutrition, and work with kids who have cerebral palsy. “It introduced me to a lot of different medical conditions.

Haana continued to express how much the trip shaped her perspective. After helping children in Uganda, Haana realized just how blessed she is to be able to learn and share her knowledge about nutrition with others. Haana also shared something that resonated with her: seeing the joy the children in Uganda had for mundane things. “They are so joyful. It really hit me seeing that in person.”

Haana’s Future Plans & Advice

Looking ahead, Haana is preparing to begin her clinical rotations next year. Her long-term goal is to get her license and become a registered dietitian, with a focus on supporting individuals with eating disorders. “I’m not sure where I want to work yet, but I am leaning towards eating disorders. I would love to have a private practice one day. I want to build relationships with patients and families.”

When asked if there was anything she would tell potential graduate students, she said to “Think through your schedule before you start. Setting time aside for coursework is very important.” Haana greatly emphasized looking into commitments and obligations to see if there’s time for classes and coursework.

From there, Haana also expressed the importance of asking for help from professors and classmates. “Also, don’t be afraid to reach out to your professor and classmates, even if you don’t know them. Everyone is willing to communicate.”

Ģý Online has helped Haana grow as a nutrition student. Through hands-on learning, Haana is able to apply what she learned in real life and start making an impact in her community. Cody Record went from being an educator to helping educators by providing education solutions for classrooms as the Assistant Director of Region 10 ESC. His journey began when he realized he was ready to pursue his Ed.D. However, as a husband and father to two young daughters, he needed a program that would allow him to stay present for his family, church and community.

After researching and speaking with several universities, Cody connected with one of Ģý ԱԱ’s admissions advisors to learn more about the Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership. Ģý Online felt individualized. I immediately felt like I was more than just a number to them,” he said.

Born to Lead

“I always felt I was meant to lead; it’s a calling,” Cody said. That sense of purpose was one of the biggest reasons he decided to pursue graduate school. “I wanted to learn to lead others who had been in my shoes as a student and teacher.”

Cody was drawn to the Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership program because it offered the tools needed to refine his leadership at the highest level. He still reads the texts he was assigned during doctoral studies and reflects on how they contributed to his growth as an educator. “I learned I didn’t have to be good at everything, just focus on the abilities God gave me. I still use those books daily; they help me handle different personalities at work.”

Overcoming Obstacles With Support

Cody admitted he wasn’t always the best student. “I had a hard time writing essays in school,” he said. Cody also talked about moments where he doubted his ability to complete his degree.

His biggest challenge came during his dissertation. “It took a lot of courage for me to reach out and ask for a change,” he recalled. After meeting with his dissertation chair, he was connected with Dr. Harper, who helped turn things around. “She took my experience to the next level and worked with my schedule. She did whatever it took to help me write and defend my dissertation.”

What Ģý Online Means To Cody

When reflecting on his time at Ģý Online, Cody expressed deep appreciation for everything he learned during his graduate program. “I feel confident in my experience and time at Ģý. There’s not going to be anything I can’t accomplish,” he said.

For Cody, his degree represents much more than credentials; it’s an investment in his growth and calling. “Ģý Online laid the foundation for me to keep growing as a leader and educator,” he said. “I can’t put a price on how much it’s given back to me, my family and my network. I can’t put a value on it.”

Cody’s Advice For Anyone Considering a Graduate Degree

“The best advice I can give is to trust the process. The process is designed to be intense, but you will come out of it a better person.”

Cody emphasized the importance of doing what is best for yourself as opposed to trying to fit in with everyone else. Trying to find a place that fits you is one of the most important things a student can do for their education. On top of this, Cody also mentioned that it’s important to put in the work and truly invest in yourself to build your skills.

“You get what you put into it.”

Grow Your Skills With Ģý Online

Cody Record strengthened his leadership skills and made a lasting impact through Ģý ԱԱ’s Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership. By building meaningful connections with faculty and peers, he’s been able to apply everything he learned in his role as Assistant Director at Region 10 ESC, helping communities discover innovative and educational solutions.

“I love what I do!” Datril Anderson beamed.

Datril Anderson is recently married and a mother of two sons, and has worked in healthcare for the past 25 years. Currently, Datril works in the transplant department at Houston Methodist, but before that, she had her heart set on becoming a nurse. At 50 years old, during the height of the pandemic, Datril made a life-changing decision to go to college.

After completing her associate’s degree at Houston Community College, Datril was eager to continue working toward a nursing degree. “My sister told me, ‘You’ve got to do this and become a nurse,’” she recalled.

Datril began looking into different nursing programs and found Ģý Online. She filled out a form for more information and received a phone call from her admissions advisor.

“My admissions advisor is my inspiration for attending Ģý Online,” Datril said. During that first phone call, she learned about the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration program.

Hard Work, Support and Determination

Datril soon began pursuing her bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration. “The program was nothing short of amazing,” she said. “The coursework was very innovative.”

While earning her degree, Datril underwent two major surgeries, which required her to recover at home. “My student success advisor and admissions advisor were helping me communicate with teachers and even with groceries. I’m so grateful to have them tag-teaming on my behalf,” Datril explained. Beyond academics, Datril was especially grateful for Ģý ԱԱ’s Christian values, which inspired her to finish her bachelor’s degree, helped her build lasting friendships that lasted beyond graduation, and provided support whenever she needed it.

“Ģý ԱԱ’s Christian values set them apart from other colleges,” Datril shared.

Datril’s Journey Has Just Begun

Today, Datril is focused on growth and giving back. She voiced that she always felt called to help others, and that’s what led her to healthcare. She continued to express how attending Ģý Online has amplified that calling.

“I’ve been meeting with my director of transplant to talk about mentoring, moving higher within the transplant department and completing my master’s degree,” she said. She hopes to use what she has learned from Ģý to uplift others. “I want to help people get into the position that I am in now.”

Datril is currently pursuing her Master’s in Healthcare Administration with Ģý Online. She expressed wanting to absorb all the information, teachings and training from her coursework to apply to future roles.

Faith Over Fear

College is not always an easy decision, especially for those with families or health conditions. Datril credits her success to Ģý Online and God. “I was so happy that God put it in my heart to do this.” Datril again expressed the importance of Ģý ԱԱ’s support and coursework during a time when she needed it the most.

Faith over fear,” Datril said, was the greatest piece of advice should could give any student worried about failure. For Datril, her story is one of perseverance, faith, and the calling to serve others. Her journey at Ģý Online started with one phone call, but it will continue to open doors for her professionally and spiritually.

Meet Joshua Jones, the newly appointed director of Education Preparation Services with the  Texas Education Agency (TEA) and a Wildcat for life. For nearly 18 years, Joshua Jones poured his heart into coaching basketball across Texas. But after 18 years on the court, he began to feel a pull in a new direction—one that would take him from the gym to the classroom and ultimately transform his life.

Joshua knew he wanted to take his career to the next level. “I was a basketball coach for 18 years, and well, football is king here in Texas, so I decided I needed to do something different with my career.” He wanted to make a difference in education, helping students grow both academically and personally. His search for the right program led him to Ģý, a choice that would set the foundation for the next chapter of his career.

Why Choosing Ģý Online Was Easy For Joshua

When Joshua began exploring graduate programs, flexibility was key. “My wife and I were having kids, so I didn’t have time to sit in a classroom and learn,” he explained. “I needed a program that fit my life.”

Ģý Online offered exactly that—a flexible, faith-based learning environment where Joshua could deepen his understanding of education while balancing his family and coaching responsibilities. Joshua was one of the first cohorts for Ģý ԱԱ’s Master of Education in Instruction and Learning in 2008, and his Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership in 2018.

Called To Serve

Service runs deep in Joshua’s family. Inspired by his father and grandfather, he carries with him the principle to “love thy neighbor as thyself.” That philosophy has shaped his approach as an educator and mentor.

“Part of my role as an educator is to help others become who they are supposed to be,” he shared. “Ģý taught me how to serve people in crisis and find solutions that truly benefit students and how they learn.”

Joshua’s impact stretches far beyond the classroom. Over the years, he officiated 17 weddings for former athletes and students—a testament to the relationships he’s built and the lives he’s touched. Seeing his former players grow into strong family and community leaders remains one of his greatest joys.

How Ģý Online Shaped Joshua Into A Better Educator

Joshua credits Ģý ԱԱ’s coursework for giving him the confidence and tools to excel. “I was able to pass my principal exam on the first try with flying colors,” he said.

Through his studies, Joshua explored leadership, conflict resolution and personal development—all lessons he applies daily. “Earning my certification in conflict resolution was one of the greatest things I’ve done for my educational career,” he reflected. “I use it with students, at work at church—everywhere.”

Joshua raved about the coursework and how it provided him with great skills at the moment and for his future. He was able to dissect different leadership studies throughout the program, which molded him into a better leader personally and professionally within his community.

Balancing Life, Career and School

When asked what the hardest part of his academic journey was, Joshua easily answered, balance. Being a basketball coach means having long nights for games, trying to spend time with his wife and children, and maintaining coursework and his dissertation. “Ģý has an amazing faculty that is willing to help. Dr. Harper went above and beyond for me when I was writing my dissertation.”

Joshua continued to give praise to the Ģý staff and faculty who gave him endless support that empowered him to never give up and complete his dissertation. “I can’t say enough about their support.”

What’s Next for Joshua In His Career

25 years as an educator is a milestone within itself, but Joshua is still looking ahead. Having recently accepted a position as the Director of Education Preparation Service for the Texas Education Agency, Joshua relies on a piece of advice he received while studying at Ģý: “go where you’re needed.”

Taking this to heart, Joshua has chosen his next steps carefully as an educator, always seeking to be where he can do the most good for others. He now oversees education preparation programs and funding for students who need support in learning.

Joshua’s Advice To New Students

“Explore your options, but Ģý Online has professors who are understanding of you and your situation. They are willing to walk with you throughout the entire program!” Joshua said he felt blessed to be able to learn under an amazing group of leaders who have taught him how to make an impact as an educator.

Ģý Online for Joshua Jones was more than earning a degree; it was a major investment in his abilities as an educator. His experience helped fill in the gaps with skills that he applied as a coach and will continue to apply further in his career. If you’re interested in taking the next steps in your education career with Ģý Online, visit our website or call 855-219-7300.

Many people hesitate to return to school later in life, wondering if it is too risky or simply too late. But for Roel Santos, a student in the B.S. in Exercise Science program at Ģý, the decision has sparked a life-changing journey. Blending courage, faith and determination, Santos is not just earning a degree, he is reshaping his future, inspiring his family and paving the way for the athletes he hopes to one day coach.

Discovering Ģý Online

In the summer of 2023, Roel and his wife, Valerie, found themselves at a crossroads, eager to take the next step in their professional journeys. Valerie had already earned her associate degree in San Antonio and was exploring four-year universities when a family friend mentioned Ģý Online. After learning about the flexibility, faith-centered environment and strong reputation, both he and his wife enrolled.

“Honestly, I had walked away from college years ago,” Roel said. “I didn’t have great study habits, and it was intimidating to think about starting again after so long. But my wife encouraged me, and when I realized Ģý had a path that fit my career goals, I knew it was time.”

A Call to Coaching

Roel has always been passionate about exercise, fitness, and most of all, coaching. With dreams of becoming a basketball coach dating back to high school, he found the exercise science program to be the perfect fit. Originally interested in kinesiology, he was connected with Ģý’s faculty who guided him toward a similar track that aligned closer with his career goals.

“It felt like a God moment,” Roel explained. “I was working at a gym here in Alice, Texas, and at the same time, I was taking classes on biomechanics and exercise physiology. What I was learning in the classroom, I could immediately apply in real life, whether it was answering questions from members or coaching kids.”

Balancing Work, Family and School

Beyond being an Ģý student, Roel wears many hats: husband, father of three girls, manager of a local gym and youth coach. Returning to school added another layer of responsibility, but for him, it was about more than earning a degree, it was about showing his daughters what perseverance looks like. By watching their mom pursue a degree in psychology and their dad also pursue higher education, his daughters see firsthand the importance of setting goals and finishing what you start. He hopes this example will inspire them to understand that while sports and other passions are meaningful, education is a foundation that opens doors and proves that no dream is out of reach with hard work and determination.

Finding Community at Ģý

Despite studying online, Roel has built meaningful relationships with professors and classmates. From connecting with faculty like Dr. Long and Dr. Hart (who share his love for basketball), to reaching out to Ģý’s men’s basketball coach to talk shop, these connections have strengthened his academic and professional journey.

“I’ve loved getting to know people, even at a distance,” he said. “Some professors really open up and invest in you, and that makes a big difference. And I’ve even been able to connect with coaches to pick their brains about the game.”

Faith has also been a central part of Roel’s Ģý experience. He values the way his courses intentionally weave spiritual growth into academics — something that has strengthened his own walk with God. “Ģý has helped me reconnect with my faith in a powerful way,” he shared. “The way classes bring God into the conversation opens your eyes and reminds you why you’re doing this in the first place. For me, faith, family and education all go hand in hand.”

Looking Ahead

Roel dreams of one day coaching basketball in his hometown of Alice, Texas. For him, coaching is about more than the game; it’s about creating a culture where all sports are valued and student-athletes are supported in reaching their full potential both on and off the court. Now, with the help of his degree program, he is turning that passion into a clear path toward making his dream a reality.

Bryan Wong was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas, with no idea the university just down the street would one day change his life for the better. During that time, his wife Laressa enrolled in Ģý’s Master’s Program in Organizational and Human Resource Development and spoke highly of her professors, coursework and the support she received. It was through her experiences that Bryan got his first real sense of the university’s impact and community.

That impression stayed with him for years. “She had a great experience,” he recalled. “Fast forward about ten years later, a colleague of mine told me about Ģý ԱԱ’s Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership program. Between my wife’s encouragement and my colleague’s enthusiasm, I finally decided, “This was my chance to pursue something I’ve always wanted.’”

That “something” was a doctorate.

A Lifelong Learner

Bryan has always valued education. Before enrolling with Ģý Online, he earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Minnesota and a master’s in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Both of these degrees aligned with his Air Force career in aviation and aerospace management, but over time his passion shifted from technical expertise to leadership development.

“In the Air Force, we don’t hire leaders from the outside,” Bryan explained. “We grow them from within. Young officers fresh out of training suddenly find themselves responsible for over a hundred people at the age of 22 or 23. I realized building strong leaders isn’t just about technical skills, it’s about mentorship and creating the right environment for others to succeed.”

That drive led Bryan to Ģý ԱԱ’s Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in positive leadership. Going into the program, he believed he had a clear understanding of what positive leadership meant. But as he worked through the coursework, his perspective expanded. He discovered that positive leadership was far more than optimism, it was about how organizations function, how culture shapes behavior and how leaders can create environments where people can thrive.

Applying Coursework in Real Time

For Bryan, the value of Ģý Online was clear from the very beginning as the lessons applied directly to his role in the Air Force. Early in the program he decided to apply to be an instructor for a leadership development course and the knowledge he gained from his Ģý coursework gave him a strong foundation. By the time he began teaching he already had the tools and confidence needed to succeed.

He went on to teach Leadership Development for Squadron Command, a role that perfectly blended his doctoral studies with his professional duties. “It was super rewarding. We were teaching Air Force officers how to build a positive culture, which aligned perfectly with my coursework.”

Even while stationed overseas in Japan, Bryan continued applying what he learned at Ģý. He established a weekly academic session at his base, bringing officers and senior enlisted leaders together in a classroom-style setting. The group explored both technical topics and leadership principles, allowing Bryan to put his knowledge into practice while mentoring others. His efforts had a ripple effect, inspiring several colleagues to consider pursuing higher education for themselves.

The Challenge of Balance

Balancing military life, family and doctoral studies presented significant challenges for Bryan. He began the program while working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., later relocated to Alabama and eventually to Japan. With each move came new obstacles. Completing his dissertation while stationed overseas meant adjusting to the time difference. Despite the long nights and demanding schedule, he found the effort deeply rewarding and worthwhile.

Bryan credits Ģý ԱԱ’s faculty and structure for helping him push through. “Of all the things I’ve done in my life, this was probably one of the hardest. But it wasn’t impossible because Ģý gives you a pathway. It’s rigorous but supportive. Faculty check in with you, advisors track your progress and you always know someone has your back.”

The Dissertation

Bryan graduated in May and was honored with Ģý ԱԱ’s Dissertation of the Year award, a recognition of both the rigor and impact of his research. His dissertation examined toxic leadership in the Air Force, focusing specifically on maintenance organizations which is a critical area where leadership directly affects both performance and morale.

Through his research, Bryan discovered that toxic leadership is often less about individual personalities and more about the organizational environment. Understanding how organizational culture shapes behavior allows leaders to create positive environments, prevent toxic behaviors and support the development of healthy, high-performing teams. Although his research focused on the Air Force, he found the lessons apply across industries.

For Bryan, the dissertation was not just an academic exercise; it was a chance to bring practical solutions to real-world challenges. The study reinforced his belief that leadership is about creating the right conditions for people to thrive, mentoring others, and intentionally shaping the environments in which teams operate. His work now serves as both a valuable contribution to the Air Force and a model for leaders in any field seeking to understand and mitigate toxic organizational dynamics.

A Lasting Community

Although Bryan studied entirely online, he still built real connections. Some courses included optional symposium-style presentations, giving students the chance to interact more deeply.

“Even though we were spread out across the world, we built friendships,” he said. “I still keep in touch with members of my cohort. I even attended a friend’s dissertation defense online. And when I walked at graduation in Abilene this past May, I finally got to meet several of them in person.”

Looking Ahead

After 24 years in the Air Force, Bryan is nearing retirement and hopes to continue shaping future leaders through coaching, mentorship and teaching. He envisions working with Air University, the Air Force’s education system that blends military instructors with civilian academics, where he can combine practical and theoretical perspectives to create immersive learning experiences.

When reflecting on advice for anyone considering Ģý Online, Bryan emphasized the importance of following your passion. He believes that pursuing what genuinely excites you, rather than simply seeking a title, makes the journey meaningful. He also stressed the value of approaching the program as a marathon rather than a sprint, breaking the long journey into manageable, achievable goals. Bryan advised approaching the program with the dissertation in mind, using early assignments and research to build a strong foundation.

A Journey Worth Taking

Reflecting on his time at Ģý Online, Bryan describes it as both demanding and deeply rewarding. “It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done but also one of the most fulfilling. It challenged me, grew me and gave me tools I could immediately apply to my career and my passion for developing leaders.”

For Bryan Wong, Ģý Online was more than a degree program; it served as the bridge between a lifetime of military service and the next chapter of mentorship, leadership and teaching. To learn more about Ģý Online and how it can help you achieve your goals, visit our website or call 855-219-7300.

To call Bobijean a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies program is true, but far from the whole story. Her path to higher education has been anything but linear—marked by starts, stops, setbacks and new beginnings. Yet through it all, Bobijean never let go of her love for learning. For her, education wasn’t just a goal; it was a calling, a constant reminder that growth and resilience can define a life just as much as circumstances.

Her story is one of persistence, courage and the belief that it’s never too late to finish what you’ve started.

From Speedway to Southport – A Childhood in Motion

Bobijean grew up in Speedway, Indiana, just blocks away from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The roar of race cars was the soundtrack of her early years, and with it came a fascination for racing. Yet it was her mother’s influence that left the deepest mark.

“My mother always encouraged me,” she recalled. “She wanted to be a doctor, but life took her in another direction. She never stopped pushing me to pursue my education.”

When her family moved to Southport, Indiana, Bobijean discovered new outlets for her creativity and intellect. She joined choir, explored journalism and found a community that encouraged her to think beyond the racing world that had once consumed her.

Education on Pause and Life’s Detours

Like many, Bobijean dreamed of going straight to college after high school. But marriage and motherhood shifted her priorities. Though she took classes here and there, life’s demands(raising a son, supporting her husband’s business and working)made it difficult to pursue a degree consistently.

“I call it a salt and pepper life, the shadows and the light,” she said. “I had ups and downs, but I never gave up trying.”

Her determination carried her through many chapters, from working at a TV station that supported her studies at Butler University, to earning an associate’s degree from Indianapolis University in the early 1990s. Yet setbacks continued. A severe wrist injury caused permanent nerve damage and made attending classes difficult. Later, she moved across states, working in real estate and home renovation before eventually landing in Texas to be closer to her son.

Finding a Home at Ģý Online

By the time she discovered Ģý Online, Bobijean was ready for a fresh start. The idea of online education appealed to her, and she felt drawn to Ģý because of its reputation and spiritual foundation.“I knew the name Abilene Christian from church,” she said. “And I thought, it’s got to be a good place. Choosing Integrated Studies gave her the broad, diverse education she craved. From British literature to Bible courses, every class felt like a gift.

“It was like opening a package at Christmas,” she laughed. “I love knowledge, and Ģý gave me both knowledge and inspiration. It helped me shift my mindset from looking back at old baggage to focusing on possibilities.”

A Family’s Pride and a Personal Victory

While Bobijean’s parents were no longer living to see her achievement, her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters proudly celebrated with her at graduation.“They were thrilled for me,” she said. “For them to take two days out of their lives to support me meant the world.”For Bobijean, walking the stage wasn’t just about a degree—it was about closure, fulfillment and proof that perseverance pays off.“Even if I don’t work another day in my life, I’m glad I did this,” she said. “I completed what I started, and that is enough for me.”

Looking Forward with Courage

Today, Bobijean is grateful, content and hopeful about the future. Whether she uses her degree for new work opportunities or simply enjoys the satisfaction of completing a lifelong goal, she knows the journey was worth it.

Her closing message is one of encouragement:

“We don’t know where our lives will take us, and we may not always have someone to take care of us. We need to make sure we have the skills and the tools to take care of ourselves. Always reach out, always try and know that you can make it.”

Bobijean’s story is proof that education is not bound by age, circumstances or setbacks. It’s a gift, and it’s never too late to give that gift to yourself.

To call Edward Wilson a future graduate of the  Bachelor of Science in Business Management program is true, but far from the whole story. While others relied on routine, Edward thrived on movement. His educational journey spanned not just semesters, but landscapes—each one adding depth and perspective to his academic experience. In a life marked by shifting time zones and ever-changing backdrops, it would have been easy to lose focus. But Edward’s resolve was unwavering. He didn’t just learn management—he lived it, navigating uncertainty, setting goals in unfamiliar places and building systems to support himself wherever he landed. Edward’s upcoming graduation won’t just be a milestone; it will be the punctuation on a story of intentional living and self-determined success. In a world that increasingly rewards flexibility and vision, he’s not just prepared, he’s already ahead of the curve.

From Ohio to Texas – And Everywhere In Between

Growing up in Ohio, Edward remembers his childhood as somewhat average. Going to school, wandering around his small town and even finding some hobbies he actually enjoyed doing. He was, as he would say, “average.” After going through some hardships in life, including having his father pass away, Edward eventually moved to Texas to spend time with family. And though he couldn’t call Texas home – yet – Edward decided to look into attending college. After all, that was the next thing in life. However, it became quite clear to Edward that college was not for him, at least not now.

“It was really wild,” Edward said. “I was doing college, and then I just sort of got burnt out. I did about two semesters’ worth of classes and told myself I would go back the next semester. And as it turns out, that became a 20-year break.”

As time went on, Edward decided to get a job and just carry on with life as best as he could. Eventually, Edward met his soon-to-wife, who happened to be an Ģý alumnus. Talking about how great Ģý was for her, he remembers his wife mentioning that he should look into getting his degree, too. Reluctantly, he decided to go for it at a different online university. And while online education wasn’t necessarily at its highest peak globally, Edward went for it, but found that maybe this was just another dead end.

“I tried to take two or three classes, and it was not a good experience,” Edward says. “There was no connection to the professors and it felt like there wasn’t much of a care whether you showed up to class or you didn’t. It was very difficult to get any type of extra help with things. And so, I kind of got tired of that.”

Still though, his wife didn’t let him give up on his dreams of finishing his degree. Pushing him to look into Ģý Online, Edward eventually gave in and gave it a shot – and it was the best decision for him, by far.

Getting to Ģý

Long before “remote work” became the buzzword of a generation, Edward had already carved out his own path, working remotely since 2007, well ahead of the curve. That early adoption of a digital lifestyle made the leap into online education feel like a natural extension of the world he had already mastered. Navigating virtual spaces wasn’t a challenge—it was home. When he discovered Ģý Online, something clicked. Here was a university that didn’t just offer online classes, but built a whole academic ecosystem grounded in faith, community and real connection. From the very beginning, Edward knew he wasn’t just logging into lectures; he was stepping into a community that cared. He dove into his Business Management coursework with enthusiasm, finding each class to be not just a requirement, but a rewarding journey. What surprised him most was how personal it all felt, how professors didn’t just know his name, but knew his story, his goals and his potential. The deeper he went into the program, the more inspired he became. His professors were mentors, encouragers and thought partners who helped him translate his wide-ranging life experience into academic and professional growth. Edward’s goal was always clear: to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management by December 2025.

“I never thought I would ever arrive at this point of my life,” Edward said. “All my life, I’ve been told I would never amount to anything – and now, here I am.”

Now, with his bachelor’s degree within reach, Edward is looking ahead with curiosity and determination. The idea of pursuing an MBA is no longer just a possibility; it’s a real and exciting next step. He sees it as a way to deepen his leadership capacity and build on everything Ģý has helped him discover about himself and the world. But none of this—none of the growth, the milestones, the new horizon—would have been possible without two powerful sources of support: Ģý and his wife. To Edward, Ģý wasn’t just an academic institution—it was a lifeline, a launchpad and a place where his unconventional path was not only accepted, but celebrated.

Today, Edward stands at the edge of a new chapter, grateful, grounded and more motivated than ever. His story proves that dreams don’t expire, that it’s never too late to pursue a calling, and that with faith, partnership and the right community, even the most nomadic path can lead you exactly where you’re meant to be.
